"My art is inspired by my grandmother, Andrea Tsosie. She has taught all of her daughters and grandchildren to make pottery. Now I teach my children." Quote from the artist.
Ms. Sando has been working with clay since the early age of eight. In the early 80’s Caroline began creating, what has become her best work, storytellers. She has been a member of SWIA (Southwest Indian Art Association) since the early 80’s and has won numerous awards for her figures at the Santa Fe Indian Market and also the New Mexico State Fair.
Caroline still uses the traditional method of firing her pottery, which in her words "is the best part of the process." She now teaches her children the traditional art, while they assist her with the different processes such as digging the clay and the final steps of sanding and painting the pottery.
Caroline's work can be found in galleries throughout New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado and Texas. As well as our own Walatowa Visitor Center.
